Juan Manuel Ruiz

Juan Manuel Ruiz is a Spanish composer born in Las Palmas de Gran Canaria in 1968 and based in Madrid. Son of painters Valme García and Manuel Ruiz, he began his musical studies surrounded by an atmosphere of artists. After a first stage of formation in his native city that includes teachers of the stature of the guitarist Leo Brouwer, he moves to Madrid to complete his superior training in this instrument and, particularly, in composition, work to which he consecrates his life and that he combines with his teaching activity. In his work all the currents of his classical but current formation are perceived, from the most Baltic tonal to later ones like Triton or Nebula, that make a new use of the sonorous elements. Anton Bruckner, Gustav Mahler, György Ligeti or Tomás Marco can be mentioned among the composers who have influenced him the most. His work has been performed by ensembles, directors and soloists such as Leonard Slatkin, Gerd Albrecht, Maximiano Valdés, the National Orchestra of Spain, pianist Manuel Escalante, guitarist Adam Levin and the Cavatina Vocal Quartet.
