Fabio Luisi (Genova, Italy, January 17, 1959) is an Italian conductor. He trained as a director in Graz, and held various positions in operatic institutions in Germany and Austria. He is currently Principal Director of the Metropolitan Opera of New York (since 2011) and Music Director of the Zurich Opera (since 2012). In September 2014 he was appointed as the Principal Conductor of the Danish National Orchestra (to take the position from 2017).

His first position was in the Graz Symphony Orchestra. He later directed the Tonkünstlerorchester in Vienna (from 1994 to 2000). From 1996 to 2007 he conducted the MDR Symphony Orchestra in Leipzig, and between 1997 and 2002, the Suisse Romande Orchestra in Geneva. He was the principal conductor of the Vienna Symphony Orchestra from 2005 to 2010 and from August 2007 he also served as chief conductor of the Saxon State Orchestra of Dresden and the Saxon State Opera, positions he resigned in 2010.
