Star-2000

Radar at the Paris / Orly airport and at Lisbon Airport

The STAR -2000 is a Thales Airport Surveillance Radar modular, modular in semiconductor technology. It is used as an airspace reconnaissance radar for airfields both for civil and military applications. A special weather channel is integrated into the system. The antenna with a Cosecans² diagram is fed by two horns (low-beam) and low-beam (upper-diagram). It is sent only in the low beam. The Cosecans² diagram is achieved by slightly raising the lower parabolic reflector part (so-called "lower lip").

The radar device uses the pulse compression method and transmits a frequency-modulated pulse with a duration of 75 μs. Because the minimum possible distance determination is worsened (as long as the radar is transmitting, the receiver can not receive anything), a short pre-pulse of only 1 μs covering this range must be sent

By gradually increasing the transmission power by increasing the number of power modules, the range of the radar can be adapted to the requirements in the range of 60 Nm (111 km) to 90 Nm (167 km). The STAR-2000 is a standalone mode-capable monopulse secondary radar, which is correlated with the data output format of the primary radar.
