Eduardo H. Rapoport


Eduardo Hugo Rapoport (July 3, 1927- May 15, 2017), Argentine ecologist and professor emeritus of the National University of Comahue. He is widely recognized for his fundamental studies on soil biology, biological invasions, urban ecology and, in particular, his contributions to biogeography by proposing strategies for the formal study of the areas of distribution (Areography) and universal rules Rapoport Rule.

Eduardo Rapoport studied at the National University of La Plata (1953-1956) and obtained his doctoral degree in 1956. He later worked at the National University of the South (1956-1966), at the Tropical University of Central University from Venezuela (1967-1971), the Bariloche Foundation (1971-1978), the National Polytechnic Institute in Mexico (1978-1983), as a UNESCO expert in 1974, and finally at the National University of Comahue in Bariloche. He died on May 16, 2017 in San Carlos de Bariloche.

Fourteen species of Hymenoptera, Paurópodos, Colémbolos, Crustaceans Copepods, Acaros, Coleoptera and Proturos have been nominated "rapoporti" by several authors. Three genres have been nominated in the same way.
