Day of the hangeul


The day of the Korean alphabet, known as the Hangeul day in South Korea and the day of the chosŏn'gŭl in North Korea (according to the respective names given to the Korean alphabet in each part of Korea) is a commemorative day marking the invention and proclamation of the hangeul (the Korean alphabet) by Sejong the Great, fourth king of the Korean dynasty Joseon, who ruled from 1418 to 1450.
