Manas Ke Dhaanan
A Kyrgyz Manasachchi singing Manas-Dastan in Karakol
Manas' tale (Kyrgyz: Манас дастаны, Manas Dastani; English: Epic of Manas) is a brave poem of Kyrgyz people in Central Asia. It was written in the 18th century but it may have been prevalent in that story. Manas was a historical hero of Kyrgyz people. He is described as very brave in Manas Katha and is told how he fought against the enemies of Kyrgyz people and defeated them, such as Khitani, Oyet people, Uighur and Afghan.
Manas-Dastan is considered as the most important literary work of Kyrgyz language. In Kyrgyzstan, this heroic story is recited in a ritual form and the person who narrated Manasacha is called 'Manasachchi' (Манасчы, Manaschi). There are approximately 5 lakh lines in the Manas Gath which is 2.5 times the Mahabharata (though Mahabharata is much longer than words). In some forms of this legend, Manas has been described as Nogai Khan. In 1995, the Government of Kyrgyzstan celebrated the 1000th Birth Anniversary of Manasas. Also see them
