Golly’s Garage
Golly's Garage was a petrol station at Earl's Court Road in London's Earls Court district. It was considered an outstanding example of the international style in the UK, and a prime example of a 1930s petrol station. The gas station was demolished in the 1980s.
The petrol station was built in 1937/1938 by architects Seymer, Orman and Adie at the intersection of Earl's Court Road and Redfield Lane, and expanded by architects Chesterton and Sons from 1959 to 1961.
The shelter contained numerous glass blocks to ensure a high incidence of daylight, while the design of the entire system was based on the department store buildings of Erich Mendelsohn in Germany. The facade of the service station was decorated with decorative ceramic tiles. Edit the source text Weblinks Edit sourcetext
