The transit of the Magdalena (Antolínez)


The passage of the Magdalena is a painting by the Spanish painter José Antolínez. It is made on canvas. Measures 205 cm high and 163 cm wide. It was painted between 1660 and 1670. It is located in the Prado Museum, Madrid, Spain.

This picture was acquired by Fernando VII in 1829.

It represents the transit of Mary Magdalene.

It uses light tones, predominating the gold and the blue that give a more joyful image than the tenebrist works of the first half of the XVII century.

Denotes influence of the 17th century Flemish school.
