José Agostinho Baptista


José Agostinho Baptista (Funchal, Madeira, August 15, 1948) is a contemporary Portuguese poet.

He has been a regular contributor to the press, particularly in "Comércio do Funchal" and later in "La República" and "Diario de Lisboa", whose supplement "O Juvenil" made him known as a poet. / p>

Since then, and throughout eleven books published, his poetry has been recognized as one of the most original and important in the Portuguese language today, as noted by Antonio Ramos Rosa, Fernando Pinto do Amaral, and others. Joaquim Manuel Magalhàes in the trials that have dedicated to him.

Simultáneamente José Agostinho Baptista ha taducido al portugués a autores como Walt Whitman, W. B. Yeats, Tennessee Williams, Paul Bowles o Enrique Vila-Matas, entre otros.
