Ignatius P. Lobo


Ignatius P. Lobo (* 27. April 1919 in Siolim, Goa, Indien; † 17. Februar 2010 in Hubli-Dharwad, Karnataka) war Bischof von Belgaum.

Edit LifeQualtext Ignatius P. Lobo was ordained a priest by Valerian Cardinal Gracias after his theological training in Bombay on 21 December 1947. From 1953 to 1961 he was secretary of Valerian Gracias. From 1962 to 1974 he was director of Caritas in India, from 1974 to 1977 his general manager. He was also a member of Caritas International and vice president of Caritas International for Asia and Oceania from 1970 to 1978.

On September 26, 1967 he was succeeded by Pope Paul VI. as bishop in Belgaum. The Apostolic Pro-Nuncio in India, Giuseppe Caprio, consecrated him to the bishop on the 2nd June of the next year in Fatima Cathedral in Belgaum; Co-conspirators were William Zephyrine Gomes, Bishop of Poona, and Longinus Gabriel Pereira, auxiliary bishop in Bombay.
