Chai Romruen was born in February 1989 as the son of the Thai Superut Romruen and the Australian Sandra Hansen in Ko Samui. At the age of seven, he emigrated to Australia with his mother and sister. He discovered his passion for the triathlon and won several medals. In 2007 he met the dancer Travers Ross, who discovered his potential and passion for dance. Ross became his mentor. After three years of training Romruen received a scholarship at the Davidia Lind Dance Center. After his graduation in 2011, he was hired for the Street Show Beat The Streets.

He gave his acting debut in the feature film Dead Moon Circus in the role of Sean McComb. He also appeared in his sequel Dead Moon Circus 2 in 2013. Since July 2013, he has been in the H2O-Suddenly Mermaid spin-off Mako - the simple mermaid, the male main role of Meermann Zac Blakely.
