Caja de Ahorros de Málaga


The Malaga Savings Bank (Caja de Ahorros Provincial de Málaga) was a savings bank founded in Malaga in 1949. In 1991 it was merged with the Caja de Ahorros y Monte de Piedad de Cádiz, the Monte de Piedad and Caja de Ahorros de Almería, the Savings and Loans Fund of Antequera and Monte de Piedad and Caja de Ahorros de Ronda to constitute Monte de Piedad and Caja de Ahorros de Ronda, Cádiz, Almería, Málaga and Antequera, commercially known as Unicaja.

The youngest of the five that would integrate Unicaja, was born by a public initiative of the Diputación de Málaga. In its beginnings, in order to promote savings, it endowed with the imposition of a peseta to every newborn in the province.
