The Holkar were an influential ruling dynasty in British India. They are among the clans of the Maratha rulers in India.

Members of the Holkar family ruled Indore from the 18th century under British protectorate until shortly after the independence of India in 1947.

In the Indore capital of the same name, some of the palace buildings of the Maharajas of Indore are still (2011). The youngest was built in the 1930s by the German architect Eckart Muthesius in the style of the Bauhaus and furnished in the style of Art Deco.
