Battle of Pedroso

The Battle of Pedroso was an armed confrontation in 1071 near the Portuguese parish of Pedroso, between the troops of the Kingdom of Galicia, led by King Garcia II, and the County of Portucale, under the command of Nuño Méndez. The result of the battle was inclined towards the Galician side, and Nuño Méndez besides losing the battle lost the life.

The direct consequence of the confrontation was the annexation of the Portucalense territory by the Galicians, who would retain it until 1090, the year in which Henry of Burgundy would restore Portuguese independence.
