Guilakíes

The Guilakí people (in Persian, گیلک, ºguilak) is one of the Iranian people whose native land is the province of Guilán. They are also found in the neighboring province of Mazandaran. Along with the mazandaraníes, the guilakíes form one of the towns of the Caspian Sea. They speak the guilakí, closely related to the mazandaraní.

In 2000 there were about 2.5 million Guilakis, growing from 1.9 million in 1990.

In 1977, a university was built in Rasht, the largest city in the province of Guilin.

The Guilakis are almost entirely Muslim Imami Shiites, as is the majority of Iran's population.
