Hamburg State Elections of 1970

On March 22, 1970, the election of the seventh legislature of the Hamburg Parliament took place. The SPD defended the absolute majority that it had since 1966, but lost almost four points and a total of 4 seats. The CDU increased by almost three points and the FDP increased slightly.

The SPD, despite its majority, formed a coalition with the FDP. Herbert Weichmann remained in the position of mayor, but due to his advanced age (75 years) he left his position shortly in the hands of Peter Schulz. Results
