Campers are vehicles derived from camper vans (hence the name).

Today, people use any type of van to enable it for that purpose. In campsites around the world it is easier to see these vehicles every day.

Traditionally it was the German brand Volkswagen, in association with the German Westphalia that made the adaptation to turn the van into a vehicle-dwelling, who was more introduced to this market.

Currently Westfalia has been acquired by Mercedes Benz, for the adaptation of its Vito and Viano vans.

Other caravan and motorhome manufacturers have joined the camper segment and there are also independent trainers.

These types of vehicles are characterized by having camping elements that allow them to spend the night and eat in them, even though they are relatively small compared to motor homes.

There are other places like in the country of Mexico where the campers are accessories to the Pickup that to cover the back of the truck are purchased these accessories, which can go in various versions and materials, the most common are in Fiber of Glass, although also can be made in aluminum or wood lamina, inside the variants of materials exist models like the model to Ras of cabin, panoramic model, u1v and safari, being the model a ras of cabin the smaller one that goes almost flat or awning of the vehicle, the panoramic is higher and can go with certain variations such as aerodynamic or smooth entries, u1v and safari models are typical of the models of lamina and is considered u1v models that do not bring flying over cabin and safari to those who bring an extension on the vehicle, also called flown on cabin.

The main camper manufacturers in the country of Mexico are, Campers Read, Followed by Arcafesa and Proa, are companies established in the state of Jalisco and having light competitors such as Campers Lider and Casetas de Oriente. Camper vans are characterized by being unnoticed, usually do not keep any exterior signs of their equipment that allows sleeping inside, a practice that is prohibited in many Spanish municipalities except in specially designated places, "Campings". This advantage makes camper vans very popular among outdoor enthusiasts, as they go unnoticed can camp in more places and park in many urban centers, where with a motor home they could not.

The most common practice to "camperize" a van consists of the transformation to vehicle housing, which requires an engineering project, documentation of the vehicle manufacturer authorizing the transformation, and go to the I.T.V. to carry out the approval.

There is a product patented by the Spanish brand Furgomania, called KitAutoinstalable that allows almost any van to be converted into a camper without the need for homologation. This product consists of a furniture, can be made in various materials for installation does not require to modify the vehicle anywhere. The Kit is attached to the vehicle exclusively using the load hooks for this reason and for all intents and purposes the assembly is considered "load", and no homologation is necessary.
