A Bola (Portuguese newspaper)

For Orensan municipality, see La Bola.

A Bola (Spanish: La Bola) is a Portuguese sports newspaper, published in Lisbon. It was founded in 1945 by Cândido Fernandes Plácido de Oliveira, then published twice a week. It became daily in 1995.

Despite its subtitle, "The newspaper of all sports", 90% of its content is about football. Usually, its editorial line is considered supporter of the Benfica, although some of its columnistas are supporters of other clubs. Former Portuguese PM Pedro Santana Lopes, a fan of Sporting Clube de Portugal, and columnist Miguel Sousa Tavares, of the Porto Football Club, write on it. From the season 1952-53, it delivers the Silver Ball, prize to the top scorer of the First League.

It is the most popular newspaper among Portuguese emigrants abroad and widely read in the former Portuguese colonies in Africa. Since 2006, it is also printed in Newark, New Jersey, an American city with a large Portuguese population.
