Onneyn Day


Onneyn Tahi († 1998 in Ambae) was acting president of Vanuatu from 12 to 30 January 1989. Tahi, who belonged mainly to the Socialist Party "Vanua'aku Party (VP)", was one of the signatories to the Declaration of Independence of 1980. On 12 January 1989 he followed Ati George Sokomanu as President until Frederick Karlomuana took over the presidency Timakata on 30 January 1989. Prior to that, he was, among other things, Minister of Agriculture and Forestry.

After his short-term presidency, he later became President of the Legislative Assembly, Minister of Education, and Finance Minister. In 1994, he was one of the founders of a split from the VP, the People's Democratic Party, but returned to the VP before the parliamentary elections in the following year.
