Leopoldo Press Piñeiro


Leopoldo Stampa Piñeiro (Valladolid, May 27, 1949) is a Spanish diplomat.

Degree in Law, entered the Diplomatic Career in 1976. He has been assigned to the diplomatic representations of Spain in Hungary and the North Atlantic Council, based in Brussels. Later, he was appointed Executive Advisor to the Cabinet of the Minister of Defense and in 1989 he became the ambassador of Spain to Indonesia. In 1993 he was appointed Chief Ambassador of the Spanish Delegation to the Negotiations on Conventional Armed Forces in Europe and on Confidence- and Security-Building Measures and later Director General of Foreign Policy for North America and Asia. In 1997 he was appointed Consul General of Spain in Houston and in July 1998 Deputy Director of the Diplomatic School. In October 2000 he was appointed ambassador of Spain to the Islamic Republic of Iran and in June 2004 he became Director General of Institutional Relations of Defense. He was President of the Commission for the Bicentennial of Combat of Trafalgar and Vocal Adviser in the Cabinet of the Undersecretariat of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Cooperation. From April 2008 to October 2011, he was again Spain's ambassador to Iran, replacing Antonio Pérez-Hernández and Torra, being replaced by Pedro Antonio Villena Pérez.
