Eemmeer

The Eemmeer (Dutch sea - the lake) is a 1340-hectare lake in the Netherlands, which was created by the extraction of land in the former Zuiderzee. It largely forms the border between the provinces of Utrecht and Flevoland. The Eemmeer is named after the river Eem, which flows into the south.

The Eemmeer is connected to the Gooimeer at the western end and is connected to the Veluwerand Sea in the east. Depending on the source, the Nijkerkernauw is directly adjacent to the Eemmeer.

In the Eemmeer there is an artificial island, De Dode Hond. A lot of the island is a bird sanctuary and can not be entered.
