Astapenko Glacier


The Astapenko glacier (70 ° 40'S 163 ° 0'E / -70.667, 163.000C coordinates: 70 ° 40'S 163 ° 0'E / -70.667, 163,000) is a glacier in Antarctica .

The glacier is 16 km long, flows into the north and northeast slopes of the Stanwix peak in the Bowers Mountains and flows east-northeast to Ob 'Bay, located in the land of Victoria. It was incorporated into the maps by the United States Geological Survey from surveys of aerial photographs of the U.S. Navy, 1960-62, and was appointed by the Consultative Committee on Antarctic Nomenclature in honor of the Soviet observer Pavel D. Astapenko during the International Geographical Year, a meteorologist at the Little America V base in 1958. The glacier lies on the Pennell coast , which lies between Cape Williams and Cape Adare.
