story
This story belongs to a small village called Solaiyur, where everyone's daily work is connected to a dam. But the village MP Nagabhushan (Jagapati Babu) plans to remove the dam for its selfish motives. For this, he tests the strength of the dam. But a government official certifies that it will last for a very long time. Nagbhushan, before dying, warns the village to re-open the temple to save the dam and says that the task of reopening the temple should be done by the legal heir of Engineer Raja Lingeswaran (Rajinikanth).
After a long search, Lakshmi finds Lengeswaran's legal heir Linga (Rajinikanth). She is a thief who steals a small ornament. One day, he goes to steal a page necklace in a star hotel with his gang. Lakshmi does not want to be involved in this theft. Linga stole a necklace and goes to the merchant to take his share. But the police caught the dealer. To avoid the police, he is forced to leave the city. Lakshmi tells him to walk in Solaiyur village.
There, Linga and her friends find that the Shivling of the temple is made from Margadh Mani (from the page) which is very expensive.
Linga and her friends enter the temple. When they start worshiping Mahadev with pomp, then the villagers also start worshiping. On that day there are Mahashivaratri - the same day King Lengeswaran said about inaugurating this temple. A girl named Bharti (Sonakshi Sinha) with a local man Subbayya helps Linga to gather information about the surrounding villages.
Linga tells the story of Lengeshwaran to Lingha and her friends. Lingeswaran was a collector in British government during his father's request in 1939 and studied civil engineer from Cambridge University, he was the Maharaja of Kodiyur. He said that considering the problem of water here, a dam should be constructed. He asked the British government to allow him to build a dam and negotiate on it. But the collector of Kochi planned to build a railway track there. After this debate, Lingeswar resigns from his post and decides to build a dam himself.
