Expireware

Expireware or Verfallware is a software that is released to customers as mostly free shareware. On the one hand, this program has the full range of features as the sales versions, but it either sets its service after a time increment (for example, after 30 days) or at a given date (English to expire)

The software vendors see Expireware as being useful in at least two aspects:

A parallel term to Expireware is Crippleware: as well as programs as free trial versions, although not limited in time use, but in the scope of functions strongly trimmed. There is also the combination of both: After the test phase, the beta version of Microsoft Office can only be used to read documents, but not for editing. Edit source text
