Aaron Stampler

Aaron Stampler, is the main character of the film Primal Fear, directed by Gregory Hoblit. He is also the main character in William Diehl's three novels: Primal Fear (1993), Show of Evil (1995) and Reign in Hell (1997).

Aaron was born in the Appalachians near the town of Crikside, Kentucky, has been a victim of sexual abuse since childhood, is also phobic in the dark and stuttering. Escapes to Chicago, where he is taken care of by Richard Rushman, the archbishop of the city. Aaron is one of the victims of Rushman, who being a pedophile, forces Aaron and Linda's girlfriend, Linda to record a sex tape. This lasts three years, until the archbishop is brutally murdered. Aaron is arrested, covered in Rushman's blood. The case becomes famous, so it attracts the attention of Martin Veil, a defense attorney seeking fame. Stampler claims not to have killed Rushman, according to him, saw someone else, fainted and when he woke up, Rushman was already dead. Upon being examined by a psychologist, Aaron becomes another person, Roy, a violent psychopath, who assures Vail that he killed Rushman. He also confesses that he appears, when Aaron is in trouble. In the middle of the trial, Roy emerges and attacks the prosecutor, Jane Venable, in the middle of the interrogation. Stampler is sentenced to three months in a psychiatric hospital. When Vail goes to give the news to Aaron, this one confesses to him that it pretended all the time its multiple personality, and that always was Roy. Vail says nothing for fear of ruining her career. 10 years later, Stampler leaves the psychiatric institution and manipulates his lover Nolan to kill the rest of the acolytes, so that they are not witnesses. Vail finds him and follows him to Kentucky, trying to reveal his plan. Stampler kills Arrington (Vail's lover) and attacks Venable (Vail's girlfriend), she loses an eye. Nolan is killed in a shootout with the police, while Vail chases Stampler to a mine, where Stampler dies apparently. Reign in Hell

Stampler has survived, travels to Texas and pretends to be a blind Baptist, robbing people of money and raping teenagers. He enlisted in the militia, which attracts the attention of Vail, who works with. The militia surrenders to federal agents, this becomes a shooting, Stampler tries to escape, however is shot by an agent (before Vail) and dies.
