Woman from Meenybradden

The Woman of Meenybradden is the mummified corpse of a woman between twenty and thirty years of age and dating from 1570 d. C. approximately. It was discovered, casually, on May 3, 1978, in a peat bog near County Donegal, Ireland. His body was wrapped in a layer of wool.

After its discovery, the mummy was sent to Dublin and placed in a freezer in the municipal morgue, where it remained there for seven years. Unfortunately, the body was damaged due to the time it was frozen. In July 1985, Meenybradden's wife was sent to the British Museum.

The woman shows no signs of having suffered a violent death, as in the case of other bodies of the marshes. However, scientists could not determine the cause of his death.

The layer with which it was found has caused a small controversy, since the radiocarbon tests indicate that the woman's body was about five hundred years older than the layer.

The mummy is not on display, but is kept at the National Museum of Ireland in Dublin. Bibliography
