LibraryThing is a website in the form of a virtual cataloging community created for shared cataloging, a kind of social experiment to share catalogs, reviews and book reviews. It leverages Z39.50-type technologies to capture bibliographic data from public catalogs around the world. The website is available in several languages, and translations are also available in a cooperative way.

LibraryThing was developed by Tim Spalding and began to be accessible in August 2005. It is headquartered in Portland, in the United States. At the beginning of July 2014 it had over 1,800,000 users and more than 90 million books cataloged.
