LS 5039, also known as the variable designation V479 Scuti (short: V479 Sct), is a massive X-ray double star and microquasar in the constellation shield.

The system consists of a compact object and a blue giant of spectral class O, which circulate in a tight orbit in just 4 days. The exact nature of the compact object in LS 5039 is still the subject of research; it could be a black hole or a neutron star.
