Daughter of Bernardo Álvarez Calderón Fernandini and Rosa Carriquiry and Nove. His grandmother was Anita Fernandini de Naranjo, the first mayor of Lima.

He studied at Beata Imelda School, then at an Oxford boarding school, England, and finally returned to Lima to finish high school at San Silvestre School.

He studied sewing and then graphic design at the Montemar Institute and later moved to the United States, where he obtained a bachelor's degree at the Rhode Island School of Design in 1992, doing his internship with Michael Kors.

He started marketing his designs in 1994 for a few customers and his brand started on the catwalks in 2000. He has exhibited at the Fashion Week of the Americas, Prêt-à-porter Footbridge (Paris) and the Weeks the fashion of Panama, Colombia and Lima.
