After an internship at Straubinger Tagblatt and the German daily post, Janson worked as a freelancer at the SWR radio in Mainz from 1977 onwards. There were activities as editor and presenter on television. In 1983 Janson became a reporter for the "Landesschau" reporter in the state parliament of Rhineland-Palatinate and in 1986 took the deputy chief editor of the news "Neues um Neun". From 1990, he was head of department "FS Information and Projects" and in 1998 he was a member of the Commissioners' Conference for the TV channel Phoenix. In the same year, he developed the concept of the literary dissertation "Schrifttypen". In his function as studio manager of the SWR in Bonn he was chief correspondent and commentator with the focus on security and defense policy. Since 2003 he has been Head of the Department of Communications within the SWR's Domestic Division.
