Sonakhan State was established in the seventeenth century. Their ancestors were the owners of Sarangarh landowners. The ancient name of Sonakhan was Singhagadh. The life story of Yuvraj Narayan Singh's heroine is buried in Kuruupat Dongri. Yuvraj Narayan Singh had a horse that was a devotee. They used to ride a horse and travel to their homesteads. During the visit, a person informed Yuvraj that a cannibal lion has been terrorizing the Sonkhana area for a few days, causing the people to be scared. Soon after serving the people, Narayan Singh ran towards the cannibal lion in the sword and immediately stacked the lion in a few moments. In this way, Veer Narayan Singh made the lion's job immensely to the fearful people. Impressed by his bravery, the British Government honored him with the title of hero. After this honor, Yuvraj became famous as Veeranarayan Singh.
Another example of popularity is the famine that happened in 1856, in which Narayan Singh took thousands of farmers together and attacked the warehouses of Kasdol, looted all the grains, and distributed them among the people who yearn for grain. The complaint was made to the Deputy Commissioner, Elliot, at that time. Veeranarayan Singh took a begging on the complaint and made Krautupat Dongari his shelter. It is known that the Kuruput Gauda is the God of Bijjwar kings. In the end, the British government, with the help of the brother-in-law of Deori who was the brother-in-law of Narayan Singh, was deliberately imprisoned by accusing the traitors and robbers of baseless allegations. Veeranarayan Singh was hanged on 10th December 1857 at the intersection of Raipur at Jaythamchu Chowk. Later, his dead body was blown away by the cannon and thus the life of one true patriot of India ended. It is noteworthy that Amar Shahid Veeranarayan Singh, who is called Lion of Gondwana, is recognized as the first freedom fighter in the state.
