Cuba Street

Cuba Street is one of the most important streets in Wellington, New Zealand. Named in honor of one of the first ships with colonists to New Zealand, Cuba, it is to the south of the central business district, but still in the interior of the city. Cuba Street was once the Wellington Tram route. Following the elimination of the lanes, the central section of the street closed to traffic in 1969, and today is one of the busiest areas of pedestrian activity in Wellington. Since 1995, Cuba Street has been a historical area registered under the Law of Historic Places of 1993, with numerous buildings of historical importance, with the Bank of New Zealand being one of them.
