Rodoguna de Partia


Parthenogony (Ροδογύνη της Παρθίας) was a childbirth princess, daughter of Mithridates I (171-138 BC) and sister of Fraates II, who ruled between 138 and 127 BC. C. History

He married in the year 138 a. C. with the Seleucid king Demetrio II Nicátor (ruled between 146 and 139 a., 129-126 a. After giving him several children, he was supposed to have been abandoned in 131 BC. When Demetrius, after numerous failed attempts to escape from Parthia, was returned to Antioch during the invasion of Parthia by Demetrius' brother, Antiochus VII Evergetes.

During his marriage, he was temporarily a hostage in court after an unfortunate campaign.

Polieno (8.27) narrates that Rodoguna, informed of a rebellion while preparing a bath, made the vow not to bathe or brush his hair until the revolt was neutralized. He immediately marched into battle, riding at the head of the army. He succeeded in leading the battle, and would be represented thereafter with long hair and disheveled because he fulfilled his vote.

Of this history, the only source previous to the old representations is the one of Polieno.
