Josef Zingl


Josef Zingl (* 18 February 1883 in Schäffern, Hartberg-Fürstenfeld district, Styria, 23 November 1965) was an Austrian politician of the Christian Social Party (CSP) and later of the Austrian People's Party (ÖVP) > BiographyChange source

After attending the Volksschule, Zingl worked as a coffin after a vocational training, before taking over his father's farm in 1910 and becoming a farmer.

He also started a political career in the CSP and was mayor of his birthplace Schäffern. In addition, he was a deputy in the Landtag of Styria from 1920 to 1930. He then became a member of the Austrian National Council on 2 December 1930 and was a member of the Austrian National Council until the end of the fourth legislature on 2 May 1934.

After the dissolution of the CSP and its integration into the Fatherland Front in 1934, he ended his political activity and was arrested for his Christian social attitude after the annexation of Austria on March 12, 1938 in 1944, and then served several weeks' imprisonment

After the end of the Second World War, he became a member of the Bundesrat on May 31, 1946, and belonged to it until the end of the V legislative period on 5 November 1949.
