Dieter Manzke

Dieter Egon Wilfried Manzke (born November 1, 1939 in Damerow, died August 9, 2001 in Dahlewitz) was tortured to death by five young men between the ages of 17 and 22 in a vacant garden bungalow. The motive of the perpetrators was a right-wing extremist attitude, which keeps homeless people for life-destitute existences. Edit LifeQualtext

Since 1991, Manzke had been unemployed, until then he had produced feedstuffs in the Dahlewitzer "mill". The homeless Dieter Manzke was tortured to death on 9 August 2001 in Dahlewitz, Brandenburg, district of Teltow-Fläming, by five young men between the ages of 17 and 22 years. When they were arrested, they said they wanted to "feel disturbed" by the 61-year-old and "make order". One of the perpetrators, the then 22-year-old Dirk Baganz, belonged to the right scene in the neighboring village of Mahlow.

The association Opferperspektive e. V. collected donations in order to allow the middle-class Manzke at least a dignified burial. A citizens' initiative from the neighboring town of Mahlow also favored a "worthy remembrance of Dieter Manzke", who had lived and worked for decades in Dahlewitz. "We also want to help with burial costs, if necessary," said Cordyline Bartz from "AG Tolerantes Mahlow". The responsible administrative office in Rangsdorf (Teltow-Fläming district) stated that no one of their authorities would participate in the funeral.

The two main perpetrators Dirk Baganz and Dirk Relitz were sentenced to 13 years of imprisonment. Two of the three other perpetrators, 19-year-old Ronny R. and 21-year-old Ralf W., were sentenced to eight and seven years of imprisonment for murder of Dieter Manzke. They escaped a higher sentence only because they applied the juvenile justice system, which limits the maximum sentence to ten years. Edit source text Single-level Edit source text
