Anthemiolus

Anthemiolus († 471) was a son of the Roman Emperor Anthem.

Little is known about his person. In a late Gallic chronicle it is reported that Anthemiolus, in 471, as a military commander (dux), commissioned his father to lead a Western Roman army to southern Gaul against the Visigoths to expose the threatened city of Arelate. The Roman army, however, was intercepted and destroyed by the Goths king Eurich, and Anthemiolus also fell. It was to be the last time that a larger West-Roman army organization was operating in Gaul. The loss of these troops also weakened Anthemius, whom his own ruler, Ricimer, shortly followed, and had him executed.
