David Buss (born April 14, 1953) is a Professor of Social Psychology and American sociological writer. He teaches at the University of Texas at Austin and is particularly known for his studies of the differences between men and women in sexual selection, from the analysis of evolutionary psychology and an anthropological approach.

Buss earned a doctorate cum laude in Berkeley in 1981, after which he devoted himself to research and teaching at Harvard and Michigan universities. Most of his studies deal with sociological strategies of pairing, conflict between sexes, social status and antisocial phenomena such as murder, jealousy and harassment, for which he has received various awards. He was awarded for his work "The Evolution of Desire".
