Pompeyanos


The Pompeians or Constitutionalists, were one of the two factions that fought in the second civil war were constituted by the greater part of the senate, constitutionalists who defended republican legality against the tyrannical threat that could suppose Julio César. It was composed for the most part by optimates, among the most prominent Pompey, Cato, Cicero, Metellus Scipio, and most of the Senate inheriting traits of the optimates.

The faction was led by Pompey during the civil war until his death in Egypt, then by Cato to his death in Utica, and later by the sons of Pompey until his final defeat at the Battle of Munda.
