The striker, who grew up in the sportfreunde youth, was called into the German youth football national team by the DFB in 1955 and took part in the 1955 UEFA junior tournament in Italy. In both tournaments against Portugal (0-0) and Italy (0-1), the Hamborner attacked the German attack. UEFA Champions League winners were Willi Koslowski, Hans Nowak, Rudolf Kölbl and Dieter Backhaus.

In his first year of senior football, 1955/56, he gained 16 league goals, scoring ten goals. Jesih made their debut on the first matchday of the Oberliga West. For the 4-0 home win on August 27, 1955 against the Wuppertaler SV, he scored two goals. However, the August-Thyssen-Stadium's team, who had just returned to the Oberliga, was unable to complete the class salary with 17:43 points and the least scored goals -37 goals in 30 round matches - and immediately returned to the 2nd League West. The powerful midfielder with a good head-ball game remained with the black-yellow and in 1957 before RW Oberhausen and the VfB Bottrop with the "Löwen" the championship in the 2. League and thus the return to the Oberliga West. In the second Oberligajahr, 1957/58, he was used by injuries only in 17 games and scored four goals. This could not prevent the relegation on the side of fellow players Adolf Kallenborn, Rudolf Lichtenberger and Rolf Schafstall. With only 29 goals in 30 games the sportsfriends could not realize the class. However, the "elevator team" immediately got the championship in the 2nd league 1958/59 and belonged again from 1959/60 with the highest class in the west.

Like midfielders Horst Podlasly (goalkeeper), Lichtenberger - Rolf Schafstall (defender pair), and the side gunners Günther Pracz and Adolf Schönborn midfielder Jesih in the season 1959/60, Fred Hartharthaus, all 30 Oberligaspiele. With 17 goals scored, he finished fifth in the Oberligatorschützenliste behind Jürgen Schütz (31), Christian Müller (28), Friedhelm Konietzka (25) and Bernhard Schwier from Viktoria Köln. With 45:48 goals the sportfriends came to the twelfth table place and could thus receive just before Fortuna Düsseldorf and SW Essen the class. The locals' competition from the Duisburger SV and Meidericher SV, on the other hand, came in fifth and eighth respectively. In the local match against the "MSV Zebras", the goalkeeper on the 4 October 1959 in the home game in front of 20,000 spectators in the 3-0 home win all three hits. The next two rounds, however, he was not able to run up continuously for his team due to injuries and ended his career as a sportsinvalide in the Oberliga West after the 2-0 home defeat on 17 February 1962 against 1. FC Cologne. Horst Jesih has made five rounds of his own internal Torrekord in the Oberliga West with 40 goals. Edit source text
