In 2005, she entered the junior national team where she coached Aurica Nistor, Lăcrămioara Moldovan, Cristian Moldovan, Carmen Bogasiu, Ingrid Istrate and Daniel Nistor

In the 2009 European Championship, she made her debut as a senior, where she finished 14th in the final. In the same year she was sixth on the ground at the Glasgow Grand Prix, seventh at the jump, and watched at the stepped bar. Their first participation in a World Cup was also in 2009 at the World Gymnastics Championships in London. Here she was 15th in the ground and jump final.

2010 won bronze at the European Championships as well as with the team. At the World Championships in the same year, she was on the ground with the Russian Alija Mustafina vice-world champion. At the 2011 European Championships in Berlin, Chelaru won the silver medal on the ground.
