Basic Law of the State of the Vatican City

The Basic Law of the State of the Vatican City is the main document governing the civil entities of the Vatican City. History

Promulgated by Pope John Paul II on November 26, 2000. He gained legal force on February 22, 2001, feast of the Chair of St. Peter the Apostle, and replaced in its entirety the previous law (the Basic Law of the Vatican City of June 7, 1929). All the norms in force in the Vatican City that did not agree with the new Law were repealed and the original of the Fundamental Law, which bears the seal of the Vatican City, was deposited in the Archives of the Laws of the Vatican State and the City. The corresponding text was published in the Supplement to the Acta Apostolicae Sedis. The law consists of 20 articles.
