Atomic predicate

Atomic predicates (also called primitive predicates, semantic primitives, or semantic building blocks) are called semantic basic units in generative semantics. These can describe the meaning of lexicon entries. They are "basic expressions of a semantic meta-language, with the help of which the meaning of natural language expressions is to be represented (...)."

The method for the isolation of atomic predicates is the lexical decomposition (lexical decomposition). Atomic predicates determine the entire meaning of the lexeme because of its internal syntactic structure.

In English, terms such as primitive predicate, atomic concept, or semantic primitive are also used. Edit sourcetext Single-level Edit source text
