YAP, the acronym for Yes-associated protein, is a protein normally present in the cytoplasm of cells which, together with the TAZ protein, migrates to the nucleus following cytoskeletal elongation caused by mechanical stresses, stretching. It is positioned at specific points in the DNA and activates specific genes that trigger cell growth.
