The XFL was an American Football League created by WWE owner Vince McMahon as part of a joint venture with the NBC television channel. Contrary to the popular opinion XFL does not mean eXtreme Football League. When the league was established, the promoters assured that the "X" was for nothing.

Due to various changes in the rules the league was designed in such a way that the risk of injury to the players seems to be increased. There were no independent teams but all were owned by an organizer.

To attract attention for the league's show spectacle, cheerleaders and players were installed in the dressing rooms and showers.

The interest in the XFL was not very big, so it was resolved after a year of operation in 2001. In particular the moderate athletic performance of the teams was led as a reason. Edit the XFLQuelltext team Final state, 2001 Edit the source text
