Failure of Nigüelas

Failure of Nigüelas

The Nigüelas fault is a large fracture of the terrain produced in the vicinity of the Spanish population of Nigüelas, in the Lecrin Valley (Granada province). This geological accident corresponds to one of the muds of the earth's crust, which originated the depression of Padul, in the foothills of Sierra Nevada, product of the existing tensions that broke the crust and produced a movement of the great rocky blocks. p>

As a consequence of the displacement of the ground, a fault plane originated due to the intense clarity of its composition in marbles and which shows very clearly the grooves and fissures produced by the friction of the blocks of materials and that due to the relative youth of the process have not been erased by erosive agents.

From there you can see the Lecrin Valley, the villages of Nigüelas and Dúrcal, the Sierra de Albuñuelas, the river Torrente and the depression of Padul.

The Fault of Nigüelas was declared by the Junta de Andalucía natural monument of Andalusia on November 23, 2001, with a protected area of 7.6 ha. Notes
