Cneo Manlio Cincinato

Gnaeus Manlius Cincinnatus was a Roman consul in 480 BC. C., along with Marco Fabio Vibulano.

La Manlia was one of the oldest and most celebrated patrician gens in Rome. Subsequently, some plebeians of this name were mentioned. This name is often confused with those of Maliius and Manilius.

Cneo Manlio Cincinato was the first member of this gens to obtain a consulate, being elected in 480 BC. And from then until the last century of the Republic several of its members reached the highest magistracies of the State. The families of the Manlio in the Republic were the following: Acidino, Capitolino, Cincinato, Torcuato, Vulso.

In coins the only cognomina that appear are Torcuato and Ser; the latter is interpreted in several ways: it can mean Serranus, Serratus or Sergia; while the last name indicates the Sergia tribe. The few Manlio commoners are mentioned without any cognomen.

Cneo Manlio was consul with Marco Fabio Vibulano and perished in the battle against the Etruscans.
