MycoBank

MycoBank is an online database, documenting the new scientific mycological names, and combinations, later developed with descriptions and illustrations.

Each novelty, after being analyzed by nomenclature experts, and indexed according to the ICBN (International Code of Botanical Nomenclature), is granted a unique "MycoBank Number", before making official the new name that is validated with its formal publication. This number can be cited by the author of the citation, in the publication where the new name is being presented. Only later, this unique number is made public in the "Database".

This system helps to solve the problem of knowing which names have been validated by publishing and in what year.

MycoBank is linked to other important mycological databases such as the Index Fungorum, Life Science Identifiers, Global Biodiversity Information Facility (GBIF) and other data sources.
