Museo de Chianciano


The Museum of Art of Chianciano is in the famous village of Chianciano Terme in the region of Tuscany (Italy). It has an important collection of ancient and contemporary works of art.

Museum Collections

The museum's collections have five parts.

The museum has a vast collection of contemporary art from different schools. We can find in particular abstract works by Tom Nash, Gelindo Baron, realistic works by Francis Turner, Jincheng Liu, works by the unclassifiable Albert Louden and works by the artist "post-Macchiaioli" Antonio Sbrana, among others ...

The museum has over a hundred old Asian art works, such as the "Loose" collection. Among these works, we have a large number of statues, cups, bowls, dishes and sculpted stones. We can also admire in that part of the museum an amphora with more than 5000 years of antiquity in a perfect state of preservation, even being the oldest work of the museum.

The museum's collection of drawings features works from the fifteenth century to the present day; it has famous names such as Paolo Cagliari, known as the "Veronese", K. Ivanov, Rennato Guttuso, Giovanni Domenico Tiepolo and Maximilien Luce.

The museum has a large collection of original etchings and engravings dating back to the 16th century. These works come from renowned international institutions and museums such as the Cincinnati Art Museum (Ohio, USA) and the Metropolitan Museum (New York). Albrecht Dürer, Francisco José de Goya and Lucientes, Rembrandt or Piranesi are well-known names that make up this collection.

In the museum you can find works that carry some historical importance, either because of their belonging to historical characters or because they were works done by them. The first edition of the Chianciano Biennial, which will take place in the same art museum, from September 13 to 27, 2009, will be the most important event of the year and will be attended by artists from all over the world.
