Istanbul Cooperative Initiative


The Istanbul Cooperation Initiative (ICI) was launched in 2004 at the NATO summit in Istanbul as a complement to the Mediterranean dialogue launched in 1994. The ICI includes the countries of Bahrain, Qatar, Kuwait and the United Arab Emirates.

The goal is a security cooperation between NATO and the Middle East. The ICI is in line with the NATO Partnership for Peace and the Mediterranean Dialogue (MD). It is designed to meet the security requirements of the 21st century. The ICI is open to all interested nations of the Middle East.
