The potest print is an official approval by the senior superior of a Catholic religious order or congregation of the content of a work written by one of the members, necessary before authorizing its publication. It indicates that the work of a member of the order has been approved by his superiors and may be submitted to the bishop of the diocese for permission to print. In this way it will pass to the ecclesiastical censor appointed by the bishop, who must grant the nihil obstat before he in turn signs the imprimatur.
